PERFORMANCES BY AHRAM JEONG,
JIM SKULDT AND MICHAEL MAHALCHICK

12/10/2011- 12/10/2011

*****Saturday, December 10th, 7-11pm****

8PM Ahram Jeong presents Recording From My Heart (Percussionists: Christian Moran and Tsuyoshi Yamamoto)

While listening to a recording of Jeong’s heartbeat, two drummers simultaneously improvise and communicate from separate rooms. This translation creates a discontinuous spatial experience as the most constant of human internal rhythms is externalized and reverberates from multiple locations.

9PM Jim Skuldt presents Cosmic Chants + Total Eclipse Reenactment featuring Michael Mahalchick

Marking the occurrence of a total lunar eclipse on the evening of December 10th, Jim Skuldt performs a musical set fusing a supposed "Total Eclipse Reenactment," with "Scandi American Folk Holiday Reparations." With this merging of temporal and spatial anachronisms, Skuldt sets out to lure the viewer into reconciling disjointed relationships within the performance itself, and its not-so-incidental rapport with the ritualistic action of Michael Mahalchick.

Ahram Jeong was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She received a BFA from The Korean National University of Arts. In 2010, she attended The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine, and received an MFA from Hunter College, CUNY. She participated in the Denniston Hill artist-in-residency in 2010 located in Woodridge, NY. Most recently in 2011, she had a solo exhibition at Momenta Art, Brooklyn.

Jim Skuldt received an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2005. He is the recent recipient of the California Community Foundation Emerging Artists Fellowship, the Durfee Foundation ARC Grant, and the Center for Cultural Innovation Investing In Artists Grant and is part of the Skadden LA25 collection, exhibiting most recently at LTD Los Angeles. Having arranged for passage aboard a trans-Atlantic containership to attend the Triangle France and AIR Antwerpen residencies, he is attempting to modify the interior of a standard shipping container as a standardized lodging unit in order to ship himself internationally. He lives and works in Topanga Canyon where he is making recordings from within a series of quasi-legitimate trailers and sheds.

Michael Mahalchick lives and works in Brooklyn. He was awarded a 2010 Bessie Award for his work in luciana achugar’s PURO DESEO. Most recently he was seen performing at Chuckles+: Avant Garde Comedy Festival in NYC.
